During my project, one weekend I have visited one private
game reserve - Lion sands. I arrived at very late - 10pm
due to the bad weather, it has just stormed. I heard the
flight before mine arrived in Kruger, but did not land,
because it was thunder storming all the time, the plane
had to returned to Johannesburg. I was lucky, though the
flight was delayed, I landed. One driver arranged by the
game reserve has picked me up, he told me about the terrible
road situation. "We need to be very careful... it
had rained so much, the car could float on water on some
parts of the road..." He is a very kind driver, telling
me everything about the region along the way: the white
river - tropical fruits production area and later the
black people living region.
It was Friday night, after a long week, it was dark,
but I was excited... Excited to see this famous "Kruger
National Park" and the famous private reserve! I heard
you can see animals very close and it is just better,
with such a high expectation, I did not feel tired at
all.
Arriving Lion Sands was a bit troublesome, the driver
told me for years it was his first trip in the night,
usually guests arrive in the day and he was amazed how
different the area looked like in the night from the day...
Suddenly I saw a lot of animal eyes... they were so many
and so close, I was shocked! The driver told me they were
impalas, I will see a lot of them later. He also told
me if we met elephant on the road, then we will be in
real trouble. We woudl have to wait till they get out
of the road, if they decided not to attack us of course...
luckily we did not meet any, though actually I was quite
expecting to meet something special...
Finally arrived, I was told I cannot walk around freely,
there are no fence, I will have to call the reception
to have a guard to walk with me in the night always if
I want to get out of my room, because any wild animals
can be around... I was a bit horrified. But soon I forgot
the fear... That night I had a beautiful room, the bed
is too big for me alone though
The second day I need to get up at 5am to go to the game
drive, the wake up is knocks on my door instead of telephone
ring, that was nice... (To be continued)
